Gorham Academy, c. 1805

Gorham Academy is one of the most ambitious buildings in all of Southern Maine. Built as a school originally it served as a statement of permanence and its architecture served to reflect the ambition of a young country. The timber frame boasted well sized Southern Yellow Pine expertly joined and the trim was an impressive amount of hand run moulding all nailed with wrought nails. The focus of this job was a full restoration of the front facade, treating both the obvious trim rot and displacement but also the years of band aids to the structure. We thank the general contractor Optimum Construction for believing in our vision and methods for this restoration.
